In restless pursuit of me

on

This is a quick message that was on my heart and I hope it helps all those living in castles, whether they are of their own making or they were dragged into them.

In high school, I became a christian. I saw Jesus as a knight in shining armour, the one who would save me from the fortified castle; slay the dragon, and we would one day live happily ever after in heaven. (Yes, I know that I am a romantic 🙈) The bible was a great love story for me. A story of how God loves us and the turbulent relationship we have had with him.

Honestly of late my view has changed a bit….When l was younger, the castle was never defined… I just thought of it as any situation. Now I see the castle and the survivor differently.

We hide in the castle cause of the things that have happened to us and the things that we have done. Shame keeps up locked behind barred doors, anger keeps the windows  permanently shut. We hold on to bitterness and anger like a child’s favourite blanket. Everywhere we walk in the castle, we walk with them.

The castle in this case is a metaphor of our lives. No one is perfect and sometimes we take the wrong turn, we struggle with addictions, insecurities and generational weaknesses. Sometimes we build the castles we are trapped in. We lay brick on top of the brick and dig a trench around the castle, fill it up with water and wrangle crocodiles into it. We then fill the castle with shame, despair and hopelessness.

I have built a few castles of my own, the castles were set on a foundation of mistakes. The dragons were the memories that keep telling me that I am not perfect and that I am undeserving of love, success and joy. I was always waiting for the other shoe to drop and sometimes l dropped it before someone else could.

What I have learnt though is that Jesus saves us no matter what the castle is made of. He will keep saving us, regardless of how many times we rebuild the castle and install new security features. He will meet you right where you are. I like how Yvette put it and I will  insert her tweet below:

Jesus loves us so much that his love is relentless! He is in relentless pursuit of my heart, of yours, of our hearts! He is in a relentless pursuit to replace our castles which are decorated and complicated prisons with freedom.

Isaiah 61:1 -3 says,

“the Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,[a]
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour
and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn,
and provide for those who grieve in Zion—
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
instead of ashes,
the oil of joy
instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
a planting of the Lord
for the display of his splendour.”

Jesus wants to set us free, bring us joy instead of mourning and bring beauty from ashes. This goes deeper than the activated charcoal faces masks. He wants to work on the deeper issues and bring complete healing. Help us to get rid of shame, anger and pain.

Isaiah 62:4 says

No longer will they call you Deserted,
    or name your land Desolate.
But you will be called Hephzibah,
    and your land Beulah;
for the Lord will take delight in you,
and your land will be married.”

Hephzibah means my delight is in her.  Beulah means married.

He will do this over and over again for as long as we need. It is not a one time deal. His grace and love have no expiry date! They do not expire after a certain number of tries.

God’s love is undeniable, His love is true! He still longs for the moment that we come back to his love…He is in constant and relentless pursuit of you!
